St Paul’s Cathedral - Wren’s Masterpiece

We are back in the 17th century. London had suffered from several outbreaks of plague but the last was in 1665. Then in 1666 came the Great Fire.

It began on 2nd September in a baker’s shop and as the wind encouraged the flames, flimsy buildings burnt easily until a terrible fire swept through the city causing devastation. Great St Paul’s Cathedral lay in ruins. What was to be done?

Come along with me to explore the masterpiece which rose from the ashes, created by leading architect Sir Christopher Wren.

Posh Chelsea

Chelsea is a bohemian, chic and 'posh' area of London. With a Royal Avenue and a King’s Road to match, it was a gathering place for artists and writers in the 19th/20th century, where “everything” was happening in the Hippie years of the 60s and where the counter-culture movement Punk was born with Vivienne Westwood.

Wander in the footsteps of many famous and flamboyant residents who lived here from Oscar Wilde to Mick Jagger, from Catherine Parr, last wife of King Henry VIII, to a Victorian painter who kept a menagerie in his home. Hear their entertaining stories.

Intellectual Bloomsbury

I have been living in Bloomsbury for over seven years. And when I say living, I mean ‘live’ in the active sense of the term.

I have explored its museums, big and small, cherished its garden squares, and savoured its history. Most importantly, I have delved into its numerous libraries. I am proud to be an alumna of University College London, London’s oldest university.

As a medical anthropologist, I have a passion for the biomedical sciences. Medicine is still being made in this neighbourhood, which is home to the Wellcome Trust, the Francis Crick Institute, as well as other cutting-edge research centres. Bloomsbury also gave its name to the Bloomsbury group, and we will be walking in the footsteps of some of its members, such as Virginia Woolf.

British Museum Private Tour

Situated in the heart of literary Bloomsbury the British Museum is the oldest museum in the world dedicated to human history and culture.

I think of it as a treasure chest to delve into, but with more than 90 galleries and over 60,000 exhibits on display (out of the collection of 8 Million), it can be daunting for the first-time visitor.

The museum has always offered free access to the public, originally stating that it was for the “curious and studious”. My 2-hour tour ensures that you will enjoy all the highlights accompanied by the stories behind the objects.
