I have been living in Bloomsbury for over seven years. And when I say living, I mean ‘live’ in the active sense of the term.
I have explored its museums, big and small, cherished its garden squares, and savoured its history. Most importantly, I have delved into its numerous libraries. I am proud to be an alumna of University College London, London’s oldest university, the first in the country to welcome anyone regardless of their faith and the first to admit women on fully equal terms to men.
As a medical anthropologist, I have a passion for the biomedical sciences. Medicine is still being made in this neighbourhood, which is home to the Wellcome Trust, the Francis Crick Institute, as well as other cutting-edge research centres. Bloomsbury also gave its name to the Bloomsbury group, and we will be walking in the footsteps of some of its members, such as Virginia Woolf.
We will begin our walk in leafy Russell Square (closest tube station: Russell Square), and we will finish near the British Museum (closest tube stations: Tottenham court Road, Russell Square, Holborn).
