I am so looking forward to sharing my Fine Art background and enthusiasm with you when I show you around this first-class gallery on the banks of the Thames.
If there is one British painter that this gallery is most closely linked with then it is JMW Turner, often regarded as our most important landscape painter. He was a groundbreaking artist who loved to experiment, becoming one of the forefathers of modern art.
There are so many other great artists to experience here, so we must move on - perhaps too, Sir John Everett Millais. Tate Britain has a fine collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings but Millais’ painting of Ophelia is magnificent. Then we might move on to Richard Dadd, sometimes described as a troubled genius, but undoubtedly mesmerising.
The works of The Tate Britain span a large period of time, therefore appealing to many tastes. They have a wonderful collection of 20th Century work by artists such as Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Francis Bacon and David Hockney ( still producing excellent pieces), these are not to be missed.
