Join me for a walking tour through the old city's most sees; The Opera, Royal Palace, Cathedral, Villa Square, St. Michael's Market Hall, Main Square, Sol Square.
Our tour starts at the Opera's Square, called Plaza de Isabel II- a lovely and animated site with shops and restaurants. Just behind the Opera, there is the impressing and monumental Royal Palace, which dates back to the 18th century. The Palace is the official residence of the King of Spain, and is located in the exact place Madrid was "born."
The origins of Madrid goes back to a fortress built by a Muslim king, which was built on the same place where the Royal Palace stands today. However, the Cathedral itself is more recent as it was inaugurated in 1993.
The architectonical highlights of the Plaza de la Villa are three buildings from three different styles and centuries. From there, we will head over to the market hall to rest a little and to taste some marvelous tapas in the St. Michael's Market Hall - a must for every visitor!
The Plaza Mayor; the main square of Madrid is the very heart and soul of the old Habsburg's Madrid. We finish our tour at Sol Square, from where the pedestrian shopping streets start and where you can find practically everything you are looking for.
