From its humble beginnings as an area known for stables and blacksmith shops to the modern day mecca for theater lovers and New Years Eve Central for the world, this tour will show you how it all began.
For Theatre lovers, no visit to New York is complete without taking in a Broadway show or two, and this private tour experience is the perfect compliment to your theatre-going plans.
In 1894 Oscar Hammerstein I erected the first theater in what was an undeveloped part of the city. Many others followed, and by 1930 there were over 90 theaters in this neighborhood. It was the largest concentration of legitimate theaters in the world. Along the way, you'll hear stories about some of the most celebrated people from this magical neighborhood past.
We start with a view of Times Square and the site of the famous New Year's Eve ball drop. Then, after uncovering the history of this area and how it became a mecca for theater-goers, we will travel by foot around the neighborhood, discovering more of the rich theatrical history the streets hold. Viewing historical theaters and hearing fabled stories about some of the biggest stars and their exploits along the "Great White Way".
The tour ends with the TKTS booth, where you can purchase discount tickets for the evening's performances.
