Acclaimed all over the world for the richness of its features and its many influences of different periods, the architecture of Rio de Janeiro combines elements characteristic of the colonial style, of the modernist vanguards and an important contemporary aesthetic - a mixture that can be seen throughout the city.
We will combine a car and walking tour to reach the hidden corners of this fascinating city. We may well take the new VLT system (Modern Tram) to cover as much as possible in our tour.
The park was conceived and designed by Lota de Macedo Soares, with Modernist park gardens and civic landscapes designed by world-renowned landscape designer and artist Roberto Burle Marx.
The historical and financial center of the city and sites of interest includes the Paço Imperial, Candelária Church, the Old Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, and the modern-style Saint Sebastian's Cathedral, Belle Époque samples such as the Municipal Theatre and the National Library building.
At the end of the 19th and early 20th century, it was an upper-class borough, as testified by its many opulent villas. Revived as a popular hotspot, home to several artists, art studios and galleries.
Founded in 1808 by D. João VI, the Botanical Garden is an essential touristic side of the city and so much visited by researchers who study the hundreds of species that are there. With a total area of 137 hectares, the Botanical Garden houses rare collections of bromeliads and orchids.
